1992: The stone of GO CDMA was laid at the Quaid-e-Azam International
Airport when TeleCard launched the country’s first payphone
service.
1993: The Company officially started its nationwide operations
in Islamabad, Karachi and other major cities of Pakistan.
1998: The Company undertook a massive re-organization of the
management structure with the aim to induct a state-of-the-art
network along with 3-G terminal equipment enabling the company
to offer VAS to its retail partners.
2002: TeleCard launched Foree Fone in Karachi on May 10. The
launch ceremony was held at the Sind Governor House and inaugurated
by the Minister of Science and Technology, the Ambassador of Peoples
Republic of China and the Governor of Sindh. Thus began a new
era in the telecom sector of Pakistan.
August, 2002: Foree Fone created a stir at ITCN Asia ‘02
in Karachi. The company participated in this international event
for the second consecutive year.
TeleCard’s next stop was Hyderabad and an official launch
was announced on October 28th, 2002 at the Press Club.
November, 2002: Mirpurkhas became part of the wireless network
when commercial services were launched.
December 2002: People in Central Sindh got connected on the
wireless network when our service was launched in Larkana and
its surrounding areas. TeleCard published its comments on Telecom
De-regulation Policy Consultative Paper.
February 2003: Our wireless service was launched in Southern
Punjab when Rahim Yar Khan was brought on stream.
March, 2003: Wireless Payphone Service began in Sadiqabad.
TeleCard sponsors an on-the-web Investment Challenge linked with
the Cricket World Cup 2003.
April, 2003: TeleCard installed its second switch in Islamabad
which was based on the CDMA technology 2000 with data transmission
capability.
May, 2003: TeleCard hosted the ITU symposium on World Telecommunication
Day in Karachi in conjunction with PTA and the Ministry of IT
& Telecom. Peshawar and other surrounding areas became part
of the TeleCard wireless network.
June, 2003: Our Wireless Phone Services were launched in 11
different places including Chakwal, Sanghar, Khanpur, Gujjar Khan,
Sohawa, Nowshera, Thatta, and Sialkot. Major metropolitan cities
like Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sukkur are brought on to the wireless
network.
August, 2003: TeleCard participates in the Premier IT &
Telecom Exhibition, ITCN Asia 2003.
March, 2004, TeleCard Limited announced the commercial launch
of its Wireless Local Loop- Foree Fone service in Multan city
July, 2004: TeleCard selected Lucent Technologies to expand
and upgrade its existing CDMA wireless network. Under the agreement
with TeleCard, Lucent will supply third-generation (3G) CDMA2000®
1X equipment and services for up to a million lines to increase
the coverage and capacity of TeleCard’s existing network,
and enable the introduction of next-generation mobile services
such as high-speed Internet access using 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solutions.
July, 2004: TeleCard was awarded the Long Distance and International
(LDI) Services license by the PTA after submitting the required
$10 million bank guarantee.
August, 2004: TeleCard announced the award of Local Loop License
by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. This license will enable
TeleCard to provide nationwide telecommunication service to all
14 telecom regions, through our network.
TeleCard Limited signed a multi million dollar contract for a
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) solution from Alcatel.
October, 2004: TeleCard in collaboration with Faysal Bank held
a financial closure for the WLL service.
December, 2004: TeleCard got the approval in the form of a
Commencement Certificate, to launch its Wireless Local Loop service
from PTA
January, 2005: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Mr. Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, joins TeleCard in launching the first private sector WLL service in Pakistan. GO CDMA receives overwhelming response from consumers.
